Learning Spaces at Koorana ESC

At Koorana ESC our staff embrace the philosophy that any space can be a “classroom”.

Our classrooms are purpose built and include independent living facilities, including a ‘Life Skills’ demountable,  laundry, shower and toilet facilities to assist in developing students’ independence.    Electronic interactive whiteboards in every room further engage students with their learning.

All our students have access to the latest technology. From classroom computers to iPads, students are provided with the opportunity and instruction to use technology effectively. Many students use iPads to communicate with staff and iPads are an integral part of the teaching and learning program.

The sensory room provides a space where students can learn more about their emotional state and strategies that they can use to optimise their ability to be regulated so that they are ready to learn.

Our garden areas include a kitchen garden, sensory garden and a bush tucker garden which provide ‘heavy work’ for students and caters to varying student need and interest.

Our younger students and those with high needs access our safe and enclosed playground area where they actively build their social skills under the guidance and supervision of our staff. Those students who have more confidence play among the primary school students in the outdoor play areas and grounds, still under the watchful eye of our caring education assistants.

All students access the library which is a shared facility on the campus, and the library officer is available to inspire children to have a love of books.
